“Roll up… roll up...”
Dinner & Dissection returns for 2022 and we invite you on a journey through Victorian Medicine. Join us as we look back on The Victorian Greats…
The Victorian era of Britain saw the industrial revolution bringing wealth and prosperity to the British Isles, at the same time the scientific method began to shine a light on the natural world and provided answers to some of the greatest questions about our existence.
Our understanding of the human body, its origins, and anatomical functions accelerated giving rise to much of the advancement that underpins modern medicine today.
Dinner & Dissection offers the chance for healthcare professionals, NHS staff, students, and those with an interest to travel back in time to learn how The Victorian Greats unlocked the secrets to the human body. Step onto the Victorian streets of Britain before pulling up a chair inside our historic operating theatre to undertake some dissection yourself.
Dissect along with real specimens as we begin with evolutionist Charles Darwin who proposed our evolution from the great apes. Walk the smokey streets of Victorian Whitechapel as we delve into the world of Jack the Ripper. You’ll meet Burke & Hare that murdered 17 victims for Edinburgh-based doctor Robert Knox before we explore the anatomy of Joseph Merrick -the Elephant Man to learn more about his anatomical condition. Finally, we’ll explore the work of Henry Gray, a famous surgeon and author of Gray’s Anatomy the text that underpins most medical education today.
